Carney Architects Recognized by the AIA Western Mountain Region - 2009 Firm of The Year Award and Distinguished Building Award of Citation for the Sublette County Library Addition
John Carney, Eric Logan, and Kevin Burke are proud to announce that Carney Architects has been named the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Western Mountain Region’s (WMR) 2009 Firm of the Year, a distinction that follows the firm's selection as the AIA Wyoming Firm of the Year in 2004. The award recognizes the continuing collaboration among individuals in a firm who have produced distinguished architecture over a period of at least 10 years, and have made significant contributions to the institute, the profession and their community, and have transcended their local boundaries in making these contributions. The honor, which is the highest the six state regional chapter bestows, recognizes Carney Architects exemplary contributions to the profession and the example the firm has set in design and professional leadership.
“Throughout seventeen years of practice from our home in Jackson Hole, we feel fortunate to have been involved with such a diverse group of projects and inspired people, “ remarked John Carney, FAIA, Founding Principal. “Our approach relies on fostering an open, collaborative process that extends to our clientele, workplace, and region at large,“ continued Carney.
Carney Architects presented a diverse body of work to the award selection committee that represents the firm’s broad spectrum of residential, commercial, and civic work. “We aspire to make livable, durable, and beautiful buildings that resonate with the past but live within the present. We will continue our commitment to improve local communities through better design and evolve a body of work to honor this special region,” Carney added.
The firm also received a Distinguished Building Award of Citation for the Sublette County Library Addition, which employs the first insulated rammed-earth walls in the country. Of the over 250 design award entries accepted from across the nation, this project represents one of only 13 chosen by an esteemed jury of architects.
The Awards were presented on October 17, 2009 at the annual AIA Western Mountain Region Conference in Keystone, Colorado. Principals, John Carney, Kevin, Burke, and Eric Logan were present to receive the honors at an awards ceremony held during the conference. Other winners in this year's program included nationally known architects such as will bruder+PARTNERS LTD, SmithGroup, and Gould Evans Associates, L.C.
