Bear Island Residence
Jackson, Wyoming
Completion Date: 2004
Designed for a family from Los Angeles, as a vacation home, the site for this 7,500 sf house on the Snake River in Teton County, Wyoming is filled with tall cottonwoods, characteristic of the riverbed area. The owners are collectors of early American furniture and art and wanted the house to be a suitable setting for these pieces. Hand hewn, squared logs and timbered ceilings became a bridge between the early cabins of the East Coast and the Western tradition of log construction.
Between these two traditions, the interior is left simple with the texture of the log wall interiors contrasting with the rustic simplicity of the collected pieces.
