Driggs Boathouse
Driggs, Idaho
Completion Date: 2003
This project began as a Fishing/Boat House located on 40 acres adjacent to the headwaters of the Teton River in eastern Idaho. The owners are avid fly fishermen and found this pristine property on one of the best fishing holes at the headwaters of the river. With its three bays, the structure is designed to hold the boats and other fishing equipment for easy access by the family.
A year later, the construction of a main house began, with wood and stone materials chosen to be a natural extension of the surroundings. The 6,275 sf house is set in the former pasture lands, with views of the mountains and the feel of a relaxed family retreat. The master bedroom and gathering spaces are located on the main level, with the guest suites located on the upper level. The major living spaces have all been located at the back of the house with views of the river and the Teton Range beyond. Covered and screened porches, along with plentiful decks, wrap around most of the house.
The beams and trusses of the timber structure, made from reclaimed fir, are left exposed on the interior. Stone and fir floors are found throughout the house, as well as colored plaster walls, hemlock trim and ceiling decking, and alder cabinets.
