Teton Village Residence
Teton Village, Wyoming
Completion Date: 2003
This 4,300 sf house is located on a steeply sloping, sunny meadow in Teton Village, Wyoming, at the base of the ski resort. Its owners wanted an efficient, livable house, designed to benefit from passive and active solar energy that could be readily assisted by alternative energy sources in the future, such as photovoltaic and thermal solar sources. Many of the building materials were selected for their environmental sensitivity and sustainability, such as interior flooring made from cork, a renewable resource, and decking made from recycled plastic. The house is built in a high-seismic zone with heavy snow loads, requiring extensive structural reinforcement found in the stained and scored architectural concrete base. The copper and cedar sided house has a sloping metal roof and a large wall of windows that opens to views of the valley.
