Upper Green River Ranch Residence
Cora, Wyoming
Completion Date: 1996
This project is located on a ranch in Wyoming, on the banks of the Green River. The owners had a particular interest in the rustic architecture of the old log buildings that are still standing nearby from the homesteading days of the ranch. The style of the house was inspired by the Scandinavian tradition of log craftsmanship using squared, lapped log corners.
The logs of the 4,100 sf house were left round on the exterior and hand-hewn flat on the interior. The materials used on the interior include timber roof trusses and log walls, stained a weathered grey-brown, as well as white-stained ceiling decking. The stains were used to soften and age the wood’s appearance. Although the house is built of log, it radiates the light of the surrounding skies of western Wyoming.
