Shooting Star Employee Housing
Teton Village, Wyoming
Completion Date: 2010
This 18,000 sf project will comprise three buildings to house employees in the ski resort town of Teton Village. Key challenges of the project include creating a energy-efficient and inviting living environment for future inhabitants working with the building vernacular and codes of the resort and maximizing.
By conducting focus groups with current resort employees, the design team arrived at a modern and sustainable solution tailored to the needs of workers. The design fulfills all major criteria on the employee "wish list": units range from studios to two-bedroom living quarters, each with a private patio or deck. Principles of optimal efficiency guide both materials selection and the open floor plan. Instead of hallways there are vestibules and creative built-in storage, saving space for full-size kitchens. Tiered development separates quiet and more sociable tenants to ensure quality of life for all, and conveniences such as an on-site restaurant, bus access, and free Wi-Fi contribute to the appeal of the facility.
In the interests of conserving both environment and employee resources, the project is designed to Energy Star standards, and will utilize modular construction, high-efficiency heating and ventilation systems, and Energy Star lighting fixtures and appliances.
