Snow King Master Plan
Jackson, Wyoming
Completion Date: 2000
In the process of developing a resort district as part of the new master plan for Teton County, four resorts were asked to prepare their own master plans showing proposed development over the next twenty years. Snow King Resort commissioned a team consisting of Carney Architects, Civitas, a land-planning firm from Denver, and Communication Arts, a retail design consultant from Boulder, Colorado, to develop a plan to meet the county's request and to chart a course for the future.
The plan focuses on the proximity of Snow King to the town core of Jackson, and treats the resort as part of the town. Retail and restaurant uses are scaled so as not to be competitive with the town core. A large meeting facility is designed to meet the demands of a growing convention market, as well as offer space for community events. Theaters, a series of small hotels, and a remote lodge halfway up the mountain are some of the key elements of the plan.
