Wilson Post Office
Wilson, Wyoming
Completion Date: 1999
When the Town of Wilson, Wyoming needed a new post office building to replace the old modular unit that had been in place for years, the choice of a site became the first issue for discussion. The post office officials thought a new building, surrounded by parking, belonged in the hay meadow on the outskirts of town. The people who used the post office in Wilson thought a new building should be right where the old one had been, a close neighbor to the general store in the heart of the tiny town.
After showing that the larger building could fit on the tight site, Carney Logan Burke Architects designed a wood facade for the building that is otherwise USPS standard issue in every respect. It is now linked to its neighbor, Hungry Jack's General Store, by a wooden boardwalk and is located across the road from Nora_s Fish Creek Inn Restaurant and the barbershop, where it remains at the center of town and serves as a community-visiting place.
