Split Office Suite
Jackson, Wyoming
Completion Date: 2007
Coming from New York City and Europe, this husband-and-wife client team wanted a refined, modern approach to their office space as a counterpoint to the rustic mountain motifs typically associated with the local architecture.
The program called for two separate office spaces in a roughly 1,200 sf space, with smaller workspaces for administrative staff. On entry, a curved bank of workstations for administrative staff hides computer equipment and softens the otherwise geometric space. Beyond the open studio workstations are two private office units, divided from each other by transparent 3Form ecoresin walls, which allow light to filter through but also afford privacy.
By keeping the materials palette simple and highly fabricated, rather than natural and rustic, the design team arrived at a clean modern sensibility. In addition to ecoresin paneling, an existing stained concrete floor, exposed-steel ceiling trusses, and teak-veneer plywood express an urban aesthetic. Reductive choices in fixtures and detailing include European wall-mounted toilets; a glass-vessel bathroom sink; machined stainless-steel cabinet pulls; and glass-cone Italian lighting elements, with frosted bands to soften the light.
